The Athlete’s Educational Foundation
In order to train sports physical rehabilitation personnel and help professional athletes benefit from sports physical rehabilitation training, with the approval by the State Sports General Administration, the third “Retired Athletes Sports Physical Rehabilitation Professional Training Course” (See Figure 1), organized by the Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation, and co-organized by the Human Resource Development Center and the Training Council of the State Sports General Administration, will be held in December, 2013 in Beijing.
I. Organizers
The Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation, founded on March 10, 2001 in Hong Kong, is a public charitable organization. It is jointly set up with 10 people serving as trustees: Mr. Cai Zhenhua, deputy director-general of the State Sports General Administration; Mr. Li Ning, famous gymnast; Mr. Li Yongpo, deputy director in the Table Tennis and Badminton Center of the State Sports General Administration; Mr. Xu Haifeng, deputy director in the Fencing and Cycling Center of the State Sports General Administration; Ms. Zhou Jihong, deputy director in the Swimming Center of the State Sports General Administration; Ms. Zhang Rongfang, secretary and deputy director in the Volleyball Center of the State Sports General Administration; Mr. Huang Yubin, deputy director in the Gymnastics Center of the State Sports General Administration; Mr. Xiong Ni, deputy director-general of the Hunan Provincial Sports Bureau; Mr. Li Xiaozhuang, vice-chairman of the Hubei Province Gymnastics Association; and Mr. Li Chunyang, international gymnastics referee.

IV. Form and Location of Training
This is a full-time training program combining theoretical and practical teaching methods. The annual training includes two parts: theoretical study and practical study.
Training location: Sports school at the Training Council of the State Sports General Administration (#50 Tian Tan East Road, Dongcheng District, Beijing)
Internship location: National, provincial and municipal sports bureaus and other related units.
V. Application Conditions
In order to ensure the quality of teaching, this training course adopts a teaching method for small classes, with a maximum of 20 people. Applicants should meet the following conditions:
1. Retired elite athletes with three or more years of professional sports training experience
2. Bachelor degree or above
3. Interest in dedicating oneself to sports physical rehabilitation work
4. Quality of decency, modesty, diligence, eagerness to learn, willingness to help, and strong ability in hands-on skills and self-learning
5. Open to retired athletes nationwide, who should obtain a letter of recommendation from the Sports Management Center of the Sports General Administration or various personnel of provincial or municipal sports bureaus.
VI. Training Contents
There are 15 practical training courses (for specific information, please refer to download materials).
VII. Evaluation Test and Certificate
After finishing each course, there will be a related test given to the class, and the grade is decided also based on students’ classroom performance. After the whole course is finished, a comprehensive competency assessment will be given. If this is passed, graduation will be granted. The qualified and graduated students will receive a graduation certificate issued by the Human Resource Development Center of the State Sports General Administration and the Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation.
VIII. Related Fees
1. Tuition: 50,000 Yuan per person, per year will be provided as a scholarship by the Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation and the Human Resource Development Center of the State Sports General Administration. Other expenses are to be borne by participants.
2. Deposit: There will be a deposit of 5,000 Yuan at admission, and when the courses are completed and the certificates are issued, the deposit will be refunded in full.
3. Accommodation: During training, room and board will be arranged for all trainees, and the fee is required to be paid in a lump sum after enrollment. The cost for housing is 50-100 Yuan each day, approximately 15,000-30,000 Yuan per person. (Based on the actual room situation, and during the internship period, participants are likely to be responsible for this fee themselves.)
4. Meals: During the training period, trainees dine at the staff restaurant of the training bureau. The standard breakfast is 12 Yuan, lunch is 25 Yuan, and dinner is 25 Yuan.
IX. Admission and Enrollment
The various sports management centers of the State Sports General Administration and personnel of various provincial, municipal and regional sports bureaus, based on their needs, will recommend retired athletes as candidates; each unit may recommend 1 to 3 people. The Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation will provide a three-day selection training course for candidates. This is tentatively planned to occur between November 22 and 24, 2013, subject to change with notification. After completing the selection training, a written test and interview will be conducted, and the top 20 candidates will be selected for enrollment.
