Running: A boss from a multinational enterprise accidentally sprained his ankle during a marathon competition, and the severe pain forced him to stop running. After he moved about on his ankle and walked a few steps, he felt the pain decreased, so he continued on and finished the rest of the marathon. In order to speed up his recovery from the ankle pain, he went to a foot therapy shop in the evening. He used hot water to soak his feet, and then had a foot massage after that. Finally, he went to a friend’s place for a dinner party, and drank quite a bit of alcohol. The next day, he discovered that his injured foot was swollen to the size of a hot bun. By then, he started to get worried, and he came to my studio for help. I examined his foot, and found the injury wasn’t nearly as severe as it looked; it was at the very most one or two degrees of overpronation ankle sprain and outer lateral ligament injury. However the swelling was extremely severe.
