Before the Sochi Winter Olympics, the unexpected injury and the operation of Wang Meng, the main skater of the Chinese short track speed skating team, had me thinking a lot. I have participated in preparations for three summer Olympics and two winter Olympics, and I was well aware that when athletes challenge their physical and mental limits, at the same time they are also facing injuries and recovery issues. Yao Ming, Liu Xiang, Zhao Ruirui, Liu Qiuhong, Zhao Hongbo, and many other athletes, due either to chronic or acute sports injuries, all had to go through surgeries to solve the problems that conservative therapies could not. And yet, their post-rehabilitation situations were different.
