This is a series of books, practical handbooks, which are written for sports teams to prevent sports injuries and accelerate injury rehabilitation. Their content comes from a long line of practical experience working with sports teams, especially through the experience and methods that were summed up during the preparation for the 2004, 2008 and 2010 Olympic games. This series focuses on how to solve problems with injury recovery during the whole process of training, which can be used as a reference tool by various sports coaches, athletes, doctors, researchers, and therapists who specialize in sports rehabilitation, or just sports enthusiasts.
Swimming has its distinctive specialized technical characteristics, so different strokes and different training methods result in different injures. For example, shoulder injuries often occur among freestyle and butterfly athletes, and lower back injuries often occur among butterfly and breaststroke athletes; “breaststroke knee” (medial collateral ligament and medial meniscus injury), however, is a common injury among breaststroke athletes. The author has conducted an injury census analysis among many swim teams, and the result shows that the common sports injuries for swimmers are mainly concentrated in the shoulders, knees, and waists.
This chapter will point out the concept of sports injuries, injury mechanisms, main symptoms, physical rehabilitation training prescriptions and injury treatments of 6 common body locations in swimming. In order to ensure safe and effective training, before training, athletes should get a comprehensive assessment by professional medical organizations and personnel. Common injuries for this sport include rotator cuff injury, myotenositis of the long head of bicepts brachii, breaststroke knee, patellar osteomalacia, lumbar muscle strain, and lumbar instability.
