The City University of New York (CUNY) is a general term for the New York City public university system. It is one of the largest public university systems in the United States, which includes 11 senior colleges (such as The City College of New York, Queens College, Baruch College, Hunter College and so on), 6 community colleges, as well as the School of Public Health, School of Law, Graduate School of Journalism, and Graduate Center. CUNY is the third largest university system in America, and more than 540,000 undergraduate and graduate students study at the five campuses of City University of New York.
The City University of New York has created a great number of outstanding talents, and among them, 14 alumni have won the Nobel Prize as of 2012. The first Fields Medal winner also came from the founding college of CUNY – the City College of New York. Famous alumni from CUNY include former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, the CEO of the Intel Corporation, Andrew Stephen Grove, U.S. computer industry pioneer An Wang, and so on.
