Licensed masseuse Li Rong taught techniques of massage2014-08-12 10:00:21 From:Dr. Bob Chen's STaR Studio

Words such as “massage,” “chirismus,” “cheirapsis,” and so on can be found in the Baidu Web Dictionary. They are English translations for the Chinese word “an mo.” But in the brackets at the beginning of the entry it is indicated that these pertain to Chinese medicine. “An mo” is a method that uses organ and meridian theory of Chinese medicine as its theoretical basis, combining anatomical and pathological diagnosis of Western medicine with techniques applied to specific parts of the body surface to regulate the body’s physiological and pathological conditions, and thus to achieve the purpose of physical therapy. From the perspective of nature, it is a type of physiotherapy; in terms of massage therapy, it can be divided into therapeutic massage, sports massage, and medical message. We specially invited famous American masseuse Li Rong to conduct a course for the students of the third term of retired athletes training class and Dr. Chen’s physical rehabilitation elite training class. The former athlete Li Rong won the US Collegiate Table Tennis National Championships three times, in 1988, 1989, and 1991. Between 1991 and 1996, she worked as a physical therapist assistant for the Nicole Hill Physical Therapy Clinic in Oklahoma City. Soon after, she became the coach, team leader, and head-coach of the U.S. Paralympic Table Tennis Team. She was an individual contractor for the WTA between 1996 and 2003. Li worked with many famous PGA players, such as Bob Tway, Scott Verplank, Willie Wood, and so on. In the picture shown below, Li Rong shakes hands with US President Bill Clinton in the White House.

With perfect fusion of heart, body and method, Li Rong’s massage techniques are eye-openingly impressive. Despite her thin and seemingly frail physique, Li used techniques such as the tai chi hand push on the burly fellow with ease and total control. There were no breaks during the whole session. Her hand motions are simple, but with just the right intensity. The person being massaged felt exhilarated, and had a feeling of drifting between wakefulness and sleep. After Li’s demonstration, students divided into groups to practice. Even though they were not skilled with the techniques, everyone could feel the obvious effects of the muscle relaxation massage. Sports massage is very effective for athletes’ sports training and after-match relaxation, which not only can eliminate their fatigue, but also reduce the odds of getting injured during future training. If combined with stretching after the exercise, it could double the result.

During the final practice, Li was pleased with everyone’s effort. In her opinion, massage is a seemingly simple, but actually complicated and long-lasting practice. When both hands are in contact with the body, the person being massaged can give feedback in a short time for good or bad results, so we have a long way to go for becoming masters of massage.
