The Capital Institute of Physical Education has commended Dr. Chen’s STaR Studio: PhD Training Projects for National Special Needs – Physical Motor Function Training PhD Workstation.  The opening ceremony and the seminar have closed the curtains.

On the afternoon of April 3, 2014, the award ceremony of the “PhD Training Projects for National Special Needs – Physical Motor Function Training PhD Workstation” by the Capital Institute of Physical Education was held at Dr. Chen’s STaR Studio.  Thirteen leaders from the school, along with the secretary general of the Athletes Educational Foundation, made their appearance at the studio.  The atmosphere was warm and enthusiastic.   A seminar was held after the ceremony, and three topics were discussed at the seminar, at the end of which they reached agreement.
 
The president of the Capital Institute of Physical Education, Zhong Bingchu opened the ceremony with his opening speech.  He started with the history and the cultural heritage of the studio, and then he talked about the combination of the studio’s teaching theory and rehabilitation practice.  He spoke on topics from the history of competitive sports to the value of the retired athletes training course, then to the training of PhDs.  Because Dr. Chen was his alumnus of the same year, he added that the mutual affection of classmates, plus their career karma, had brought them together, which made the ceremony more significant.  
 

After Zhong’s Speech, Dr. Chen first thanked him for the ceremony, and then explained how such collaboration was created.  He talked about his study abroad experience; during the ten-year study abroad, he gradually matured, and two dreams were germinated.  He spent ten years to realize his first dream: to have the Chinese national teams benefit from physical rehabilitation to achieve the best results in the Olympics.  Twenty years of accumulated experience has merged into his second dream: education.  He wanted to pass his teaching and practical experience onto more people, so that more ordinary people could benefit from physical rehabilitation, and enjoy the magical effects to their bodies that was afforded to Olympic champions by the latest technology.  All this needs to be achieved through the establishment of the theoretical system of physical rehabilitation.  He further explained, “Ti is for body, Neng is for function, Kang is for health, and Fu is for recovery or restoration.  We must walk our own innovation path.  Over these years, under the strong support of the Athletes Educational Foundation, the Science and Education Division, Personnel Division, and the Training Division of the General Administration of Sports, we have successfully created three terms of Retired Athletes Training Courses.”  He looked forward to working tightly together with the Capital Institute of Physical Education, and carrying forward and further developing the cause of physical rehabilitation.

After the speech, President Zhong Bingshu and Secretary Li Hongji put up the sign for Dr. Chen’s STaR Studio, and the conference hall broke into enthusiastic applause, which signified the end of the ceremony.  

After a short break, participants gathered for a picture, followed by a discussion. The seminar discussed three major parts: education degrees, professional technical training, and setting up a branch of Dr. Chen’s STaR Studio on the campus of the Capital Institute of Physical Education.  The discussion lasted nearly one hour and it was carried on in a relaxed atmosphere.  It began with Dr. Chen laying out the contents of the seminar, which clarified the purpose of the seminar.  The Athletes Educational Foundation talked about the three years of operation experience of retired athletes training, including its difficulties, and meanwhile, it brought up the issue of cooperation with the Capital Institute of Physical Education.  Afterwards, the secretary of the CIPE, Li Hongjiang, made suggestions and explanations for professional technical training based on the professional training policies that were vigorously promoted by the government nowadays, and he also looked brightly into the future.  Finally, President Zhong added a few things to the topics and the cooperation programs, and the two sides reached a consensus.  

At the end, Dr. Chen said that a good university must have a good practical classroom, so as to achieve the goal of “applying the knowledge” and realizing the age-old understanding that “knowledge and action should go hand in hand.”   He very much agreed with building a sports hospital, and believed that the development of physical rehabilitation will be more extensive, and that more talented people will be cultivated in the near future.
